Dr Hirokazu Takami

Hirokazu Takami, MD, PhD, is an Associate Professor (Lecturer) of Neurosurgery at The University of Tokyo. His research centers on genomic and translational studies of pediatric and adult brain tumors, with a particular focus on CNS germ cell tumors and gliomas. He leads several key molecular studies that have advanced understanding of CNS germ cell tumor pathogenesis, including discoveries in tumor immunology, methylation-based classification, and prognostic genomic alterations. Dr. Takami serves as a core member of the iGCT Genome Analysis Consortium and co-principal investigator of the nationwide CNSGCT2021 clinical trial. He also leads the Biology Research Working Group of the Japan Children’s Cancer Group (JCCG), contributing to national strategies for biomarker research and precision diagnostics. Clinically, he specializes in brain and spine tumor surgery, supported by fellowship training at Mayo Clinic and the University of Toronto, and has received multiple national and international awards for his scientific contributions.
