Dr Irene Slavc

Dr. Irene Slavc is a pediatric hematologist/oncologist who specialized in pediatric neuro-oncology. She received her MD in 1980 from the Medical University of Graz, Austria, where she also completed her residency and fellowship in pediatrics and pediatric hematology/oncology. From 1987-1989 she conducted a research fellowship in genetics at the Children’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston. Following her faculty appointment at the Medical University of Graz in 1992 she spent two years in brain tumor research at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. From 1994 until her formal retirement in 2020, Dr. Slavc was associate professor and director of the pediatric neuro-oncology program at the Department of Pediatrics, Medical University of Vienna, where she currently holds a small contract. Her research interests focus on metronomic and targeted antiangiogenic treatment of recurrent brain tumors, intra-cerebrospinal fluid treatment, rare embryonal tumors and neuropsychological aspects of brain tumor treatment in children. Dr. Slavc has authored or co-authored more than 160 publications in peer reviewed journals.
