Prof Sebastian Waszak

Sebastian Waszak, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Life Sciences at EPFL and an Associate Adjunct Professor of Neurology at UCSF. He is a member of the Swiss Institute for Experimental Cancer Research (ISREC), the AGORA Cancer Research Center, and the EPFL AI Center. He received his PhD in Biotechnology and Bioengineering from EPFL and completed his postdoctoral training in cancer genomics at EMBL Heidelberg. At EPFL, he leads the Laboratory of Computational Neuro-Oncology, where his team investigates the origins and evolution of pediatric brain tumours (DMG, pHGG, pLGG) and develops novel methods and technologies to inform and optimize therapeutic decision-making in neuro-oncology. He is a member of the Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Consortium and leads biomedical data science research programs in preclinical and clinical studies. He has published over 90 papers in cancer research, genome research, and computational biology, and has contributed to international standards for the diagnosis of CNS tumours and genetic tumour syndromes.
